ASSESS, ADDRESS, and REASSESS. We’ve all heard the expression: “If you are not assessing then you are guessing.” This workshop is for the soft-tissue practitioners who work with clients with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunctions. As therapists develop their palpation skills, we become increasingly proficient in developing assessment skills…if practiced. Performing special tests, including assessment of active and passive ROM, manual muscle tests, and specific orthopedic tests, is an essential component of this skill set. Yet the role of assessment in the profession of massage is often misunderstood because as MT’s we do not diagnose. A therapist’s success lies in his or her ability to administer assessment tests properly; before, during, or after a session.
This workshop will aid the therapist in knowing the difference between ASSESSMENTS and DIAGNOSING. It will also teach the therapist not only how to define the different types of assessment: GAIT, POSTURE, AND PALPATING, but how to assess postural and muscular dysfunctions. Learn how to use the 4 T’s of palpation to aid in assessing and identifying muscular dysfunctions. The use of end feel assessment will be defined and learned along with special orthopedic manual therapy tests will also be taught so the MT can incorporate into their session; either before or during a massage session. Lastly, the learning and incorporation of these “tools” will help the therapist to use all the information accumulated to create a more defined treatment plan with clinical reasoning resulting in having more therapeutic, longer lasting results. Perfect for LMTs in the early stages of their careers!
