Fascia Release – Foundations

Toms River Campus – Saturday, April 11 & Sunday, April 12, 2026 • 9:30am – 5:00pm
Presented by Theresa Tobin Macy, LMT, C-IAYT, E-RYT 500

Fascia Release Therapy – Foundations is a fascia-informed continuing education course designed to support massage therapists in refining assessment skills, deepening anatomical understanding, and applying fascia-focused techniques with greater clarity and responsiveness.

The course emphasizes learning to recognize patterns within the fascial system through observation, palpatory listening, and embodied awareness. Participants are guided to understand when, why, and how to apply fascia-focused techniques in a way that feels informed, adaptable, and sustainable within clinical practice.

The instruction integrates current fascia research, the anatomy of continuity, and experiential learning. Participants explore the pathways beneath their hands while also learning through their own bodies, supporting a learning environment that values discernment, integration, and practical application. The course aligns well with a curriculum that values mindful presence, body awareness, and therapeutic relationships.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify foundational principles of the fascial system, including form, function, and continuity
  • Assess tissue quality, load transmission, and movement patterns through palpatory and visual observation
  • Apply fascia release techniques with intention based on assessment findings
  • Integrate anatomical knowledge with hands-on application for coherent session planning
  • Demonstrate body mechanics that support practitioner sustainability
  • Communicate effectively with clients regarding treatment goals and tissue response
  • Apply ethical awareness and professional responsibility within client care

Course Content

  • Overview of the fascial system as a body-wide network
  • Fascial properties, including elasticity, plasticity, viscosity, and hydration
  • Anatomy of continuity and myofascial meridians
  • Principles of assessment and sensory listening
  • Technique application and sequencing informed by tissue response
  • Load, compression, tension, and force transmission
  • Practitioner body mechanics and efficiency
  • Client communication and ethical considerations

Teaching Methods

The course is taught through a combination of:

  • Didactic instruction supported by current fascia research
  • Guided somatic and sensory awareness practices
  • Demonstration of fascia release techniques
  • Supervised hands-on practice and exchanges
  • Small group discussion and reflective integration

Learning emphasizes integration of theory with embodied experience and practical, clinically relevant application.
