Massage Therapy in Athletics

Toms River Campus – Dates TBD • 10am – 6pm

Presented by Mira Rucker, LMT

Discover the healing benefits of Massage Therapy in Athletics!

When you hear the term “massage therapy,” you probably picture the epitome of relaxation in the form of a serene, candle-lit spa room. However, as recent studies have shown, massages aren’t just for those looking to get pampered.

In fact, massage therapy is actually an effective technique used by athletic trainers to help improve the health of athletes, whether it’s to reduce pain inflicted by injury or to decrease the amount of time they’ll spend in recovery.

Massage therapy can help your athletic clients, whether they are professional athletes or those who started exercising to stay fit and healthy.

Learn from a seasoned LMT about best practices on and off the table, from the locker room to the arena! Find out what it takes to succeed in sports from club to collegiate and even professional sports as a manual therapist.

In this class you will:

  • learn the benefits and types of sports massage,
  • when and how to apply specific techniques,
  • how to identify and treat potential risks of injury and muscular overuse in the athlete, and
  • learn best practices on communicating with the individual athlete and the team training staff.

Practice learned techniques in this hands-on course. Spend time working in groups to design a therapy protocol specific to the biomechanics of an individual athlete incorporating the team’s game and training schedule.
